We are talking about Nike Dunks.
They are almost 40 years old but they are more contemporary than ever!!
The Nike Dunk teaches how a sneaker model was able to bring together fashion, art, music, sport and pop culture under a single sole.
They were born in 1985 and, although they are currently very popular on the market, they cannot be said to have always had an easy life. In the words of Virgil Abloh: «The Dunk is a shoe that goes beyond the most classic inanimate object». This is a story made up of many sub-chapters, a story that at times contains others and they all refer to the readjustments that Nike has conceived over the years. In fact, from the original Nike Dunk the Nike SB Dunk, the Nike Dunk Pro B and the Nike Dunk CO.JP were born, all with small variations but which meant a lot for sports and sneaker enthusiasts, thus establishing the success that the line has today enjoys. Micro revolutions that intersect with each other, and in turn in the lives of the athletes who wore them or the artists who rethought them.
Designed by Peter Moore and some existing Nike lines (Air Force 1, Terminator, Air Jordan 1, Legend), the Nike Dunk debuted as a shoe for playing basketball in August 1985, almost 40 years ago, in a high-top version protect the ankles - hence “high” in the name of the shoe model.
The fact that they made their debut in this sport in those years was certainly not a random choice: basketball was experiencing its golden age thanks to the talent of Michael Jordan , and the brand developed 7 models coordinated with the colors of the most famous American colleges, launching them with the slogan " Be True to Your School” .
Over the years, especially in the mid-90s, the world of Skate will begin to take a particular interest in the DUNK world.
Collaborations therefore began which led to the birth of DUNK SB , dedicated precisely to the world of SkateBoard. From here a simple shoe model became a collectible, attracting the attention of SUPREME and other brands.
What seemed to be an impossible phenomenon to stop, however, saw a moment of decline: for decades the Nike Dunk went out of the spotlight, returning to the spotlight thanks also to the likes of Travis Scott, Kylie Jenner which will open the brand an enormous window onto the majority of the population - therefore external to the sporting or artistic worlds in which they have always remained. In 2019 the collaboration with Virgil Abloh and his Off-White becomes one of the most overwhelming, as in 2020 the Travis Scott x Nike SB Dunk Low Cactus Jack . Those who are unable to buy Dunks when the new models come out suddenly flock to the vintage ones , thus enriching a market that has now almost been forgotten.
To date, buying a pair of Nike Dunks - whether new or vintage - is a real mission, just as it is difficult to count the countless releases launched in recent years. Collaborations with artists, other brands or re-editions of vintage Dunks - a real world of its own in the universe of sneakers, which at times has struggled to open up to women's sizes but which is slowly managing to satisfy the entire public.
This shoe thus writes not a page in the book of fashion but an entire dedicated insert, which sees its silhouette as belonging to no one but to everyone.
We at Feelingud are committed to ensuring that this fascinating world is accessible to everyone with a simple click.
Long live Nike Dunk!
